We Can Make You Better! ~ by Stacy DeMars

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

“Any trainer can make you tired, not any trainer can make you better.”

I read this today on a Girls Gone Strong blog post…if you haven’t familiarized yourself with GGS I suggest you do so now…its ok I’ll wait…do do do do do do dooooooo. Ok your back? Aren’t they great? I think so too, ok let’s continue.

Reading that first line of the blog inspired me to write my own thoughts on the subject. I have been certified for over 6 months, and by no means am I claiming to be the best or have the most experience, however I have seen some really crappy trainers out there. I may not know it all but one thing I know in my heart is that I am 10 times better than a bulk of the trainers who have been doing this for years, if for no other reason than the fact that my clients can now also spot the crappy trainers in the gym, just from having worked with me and learning what a proper training program can do.

Simply because someone is “certified” does not mean they necessarily know what they are doing, and a lot of trainers believe in the “no pain no gain” motto. I don’t like to put other people down, and believe me there are a ton of GREAT trainers out there too, but it drives me nuts when I walk into my big box gym and see the trainers who have a brand new client doing crazy things like jump squats or bosu push ups on day one, it never ceases to amaze me the limits these trainers will push with no regard to the clients’ ability, mobility or safety for that matter.

I am not one of those trainers. I am actually the antithesis of those trainers. I believe if you feel pain you should STOP immediately. Seriously, stop…do not pass go, do not collect $200. My number one goal is to keep you out of pain, before, after and during your workouts the goal is to remain pain free. I want to get you moving properly, feeling stronger, younger and pain free!

There is a vast difference between being in pain and having general muscle fatigue, of course I want you to get a good workout and feel somewhat tired, but not to the point where you can’t walk the next day. Believe it or not I want my clients to come back! (call me crazy but I like a repeat customer) Will you be motivated? Absolutely! Will you do things you never imagined you could do? You betchya! Will it be challenging? No doubt! A workout should be obtainable and programed to your ability level and progressed at a rate you can handle. Otherwise as my trainer says to me all the time, “it would be like trying to shoot a cannon from a canoe, it is just not going to work.”

If you are thinking about hiring a trainer remember that quote from the beginning of this blog “Any trainer can make you tired, not any trainer can make you better.” So if you don’t want just “any” trainer but one who can make you better give us a call at 1-401-333-3978, we’d be more than happy to help!
